Mid-century magic on display in a desert oasis

Here I was, in the middle of the blazing Palm Springs desert, boarding a cable car to ascend the surrounding mountains.

The skis and gloves are nowhere to be seen as we take off in what’s billed as the world’s largest rotating aerial tramway.

The 10-minute cable car journey takes you past the staggering cliffs of Chino Canyon up to the Mountain Station in the middle of the wilderness of the Mt San Jacinto State Park.

Jessie Murphy has indeed cut off her hair. She just snuck out of Crown and around the corner to walk the carpet. In the old days cars would sometimes pick up the couples, drive around the block and drop them back at the start. Nice to see that’s one tradition that’s been given the flick.

Djokovic played a blistering match after a slow start. He will take a lot of beating in Sunday's final.

The defending champion will take on either Dominic Thiem or Alexander Zverev, who play tomorrow night.
